Born from a 2009 DIY trip to Guanaja, Honduras, the Danger Muffin was developed by signature tyer Doug McKnight to fool notoriously "picky" permit that had haunted him for a decade. This innovative pattern features a lifelike carapace created from a unique 60/40 blend of rabbit fur and deer hair, providing a mottled, camouflaged appearance that mimics a natural reef crab. While primarily a top-tier permit fly, its realistic profile and various colorways make it equally effective for targeting large bonefish, redfish, and triggerfish across the Caribbean and the Florida Keys. To fish it effectively, anglers should utilize a strip-and-pause retrieve to imitate a crab's side-to-side movement, allowing the weighted Ahrex jig hook to plummet and sit naturally on the bottom. Whether fished over turtle grass or sandy flats, the Danger Muffin's soft materials and Pat Cohen laser-cut claws ensure it looks as "tasty" as the real thing to discerning predators.
