Spokane River - 696 CFS

The sun is setting before 8:00 PM and the days of sneaking in a quick evening session after work will be gone before we know it, so you better take advantage of it while you can! Kids are also back at school this week, which means pressure will be lighter on the river as families get back into their routines.

Fishing has been hit or miss lately on the Spokane River with some anglers finding success on double nymph rigs that utilize a size 8-10 anchor fly, like a 20-Inch Stone and a size 14-18 dropper (Schuck-It Jig, Walt’s Worm, or Crust Nymph).

Attractor patterns, ants, and tiny baetis patterns will get some love on the surface. If these aren’t working for you, please see the previous paragraph.

One key to success on the Spokane is to be constantly moving and searching to find fish. The more water you cover, the more fish you’ll catch.

Warmwater

Topwater action continues to be excellent for bass in all of our area lakes and reservoirs! This is by far the most fun you can have in the late summer when other fisheries are stale. Bass will be found hanging around the shoreline, so focus your attention on lily pads, docks, and other structure that provide good ambush points.

The clock is ticking for those of you looking to get your carp fix in, as fall is right around the corner. Many of our lakes will provide fishing through the month of September, but a decent cold front can have them scurrying for deeper water. Focus your attention along shallow flats and rocky shorelines where carp will be found eating anything they can get their lips on.

Upcoming Classes and Events

Free fly tying classes kick off this Saturday, August 29 at 10 AM at our House of Fly location in Mead and run through next spring (please note, no tying class on September 19). After you’re done with fly tying class, stick around for our casting clinic starting at 2 p.m.

Steelhead season is coming up fast, so we’re offering a free Steelhead 101 class to help those who are just starting their journey chasing these magical fish! This class will take place on Saturday, September 19 at 10 AM at our Mead location.
