LEARN TO FLY FISH EXPERIENCE ON THE MISSOURI RIVER

THE WORKSHOP

CRAIG, MONTANA

Fly fishing can feel overwhelming when you're getting started. There are knots to learn, flies to choose, and plenty of questions once you step onto the water. Our Missouri River Fly Fishing Workshop was created to simplify the learning process through hands-on instruction, helping anglers build the skills and confidence to enjoy the sport long after the trip is over.

Whether you're picking up a fly rod for the first time or looking to strengthen your foundation, you'll spend your time learning alongside experienced Missouri River guides who genuinely enjoy teaching. By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a better understanding of not just how to fish, but why you're making the decisions that lead to success on the water.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT THAN A GUIDE TRIP?

Unlike a traditional guided fishing trip, this workshop is built around learning—not just catching fish.

We intentionally take time throughout the day to pause and break down what's happening on the water. Rather than simply moving from one productive run to the next, we'll stop to discuss how to rig your rod, why we're choosing a particular fly, how different water types influence our approach, and what adjustments to make as conditions change.

Whether we're changing flies, adding weight, adjusting indicator depth, or approaching a new piece of water, we'll explain not only what we're doing, but why we're doing it. Our goal is to help you understand the decision-making process so you can confidently apply those skills long after the workshop is over. And create an opportunity of conversation to help you learn.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • Fly rod setup, leaders, tippet & rigging
  • Essential knots
  • Dry fly & nymph techniques
  • Casting fundamentals & line management
  • Reading water and locating trout
  • Fly selection & seasonal hatches
  • River entomology and insect identification
  • Fish fighting, landing & proper release

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a hands-on learning experience that combines instruction with time on the water. Each day includes personalized coaching, guided fishing, casting practice, and discussions about the techniques and decisions that make successful anglers. Our goal isn't simply to help you catch fish—it's to help you understand the process so you can confidently apply it on your next river.
