The Aleutian Queen is a marabou salmon and steelhead fly that grew out of George Cook’s experiments in Alaska in the 1980s with long, flowing marabou and flash materials. Cook was exploring ways to give flies more movement in the current, creating patterns that pulsed and undulated to mimic baitfish and attractor shapes. The Aleutian Queen is tied with marabou—a steelhead material classic—so it really comes alive on the swing, making it effective on salmon and steelhead in rivers throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. It’s one of the color and style variants that comes from Cook’s broader legacy of developing marabou patterns.

  • Fish on the swing when you need a lot of fleshy looking movement
