Tommy's Floating Crab - Yellow - 2

Designed by Xcalak, Mexico flats guide Tommy Batun, the Floating Crab was inspired by time spent watching how permit feed along sargassum weed lines on the Yucatán flats. Batun noticed that small crabs often drift high in the water or struggle near the surface—something most traditional crab flies, designed to sink quickly, don’t imitate well. To match that behavior, he created a buoyant crab pattern that rides naturally in the surface film. The wide crab profile and rubber legs give the fly subtle movement as it drifts with current, closely resembling the small floating crabs permit key in on. Originally developed for permit, Batun’s Floating Crab has become a proven option whenever fish are feeding higher in the water column around floating weed.
