  • Signature Pattern by Craig Mathews
  • Imitates a struggling mayfly emerging from nymphal stage to adult
  • Features pheasant tail fibers that trap bubbles and imitates the real thing
Craig Mathews Pheasant Tail Emerger was developed with one purpose: to catch big, selectively feeding trout on Yellowstone Country’s spring creeks and rivers. This PT Emerger pattern proves especially effective when fish are targeting emerging mayflies struggling to shed their nymphal shucks and transform into fully formed duns. Rather than relying on standard dubbings, Craig Mathews uses pheasant tail fibers to imitate the bodies of these fly patterns. The frilly nature of the pheasant tail barbules traps air bubbles and creates a natural sparkle, closely mimicking that of real mayflies. The thorax, crafted from carefully chosen dubbing blends, matches the color of natural insects escaping their nymphal or pupal shucks. This remarkably effective pattern has proven itself capable of fooling some of the most selective trout, no matter the river.
