Scott Fly Rods: An American Original

By Jay D'Arpini

Scott Fly Rods is just different. They don't hammer you over the head with one new rod after another. Instead, they let their rods marinate, over time, so that what you have on the water is is the best they can do. Which means, you don't have to think about buying another "newest, greatest stick" until, well, they come out with something that, in their minds, is significatly better than its predecessor. Earlier this year House of Fly visited Jim Bartchi and Scott Fly Rods in Montrose, Colorado, to get the skinny straight from the man in charge. Following is a walk-through with Bartchi, explaining his theory on fly-rod development, the value of extreme quality, and what separates Scott from the masses. Watch this vid and you'll likely think, I got to add one of these sticks to my quiver.
